The State

The state of New Mexico is one of the Mountain States in the US and in addition to that, it is one of the largest in the nation. Shaped like a perfect rectangle except for its southwestern corner, New Mexico is a very interesting state to visit.

It is also known as the Land of Enchantment. New Mexico is bounded on the east by Texas and Oklahoma, on the north by Colorado, on the west by Arizona and on the north by Colorado.

On the south, the state shares a border with the nation of Mexico (via the state of Chihuahua). It is also quite interesting to know that Arizona was once part of New Mexico. A truly fascinating state, New Mexico is known and appreciated for the dazzling beauty of its varying landscape.

From the picturesque deserts to the majestic mountains, Spanish legends to classy Native Indian villages, New Mexico has more than enough to offer the tourist. The capital city is Santa Fe and it was established in 1610.

The People

Right from the beginning of time, the state of New Mexico has been inhabited by various Native American tribes and today, the state is still home to one of the largest populations of American Indians in the United States.

The most popular of these tribes include the Navajo, Apache and Pueblo. Of all the states I visited in the United States, New Mexico stands out as the one with the highest percentage of Hispanics (Latinos) who make up almost half of the population!

That is surely staggering but when you consider the fact that New Mexico is just across the border, and that the state itself was once part of Spain, you will have a clearer understanding of the picture. However, other New Mexicans are Blacks, Whites (non-Hispanic) and Asians.

Eating

When it comes to cuisine, New Mexico is one of the most impressive states in the United States. For example, the state has its own unique cuisine and can be best described as a mix of Spanish, Mexican, American and Native Indian flavors.

One popular ingredient in many of the meals is the New Mexico chili peppers, and that means you must be prepared for a spicy delight!

For example, some of the meals that you must try out in the state include tamale, which is a mixture of meat rolls, cornmeal and red chili pepper.

Another fantastic meal is enchilada, which is made from corn tortillas blended with chicken, cheese and chili pepper.

For breakfast in New Mexico, I always cherish burrito, which is made with beef, eggs, potatoes, all fried together and you get it, with chili pepper. However, you will always have choices to select from.

Drinking

The state of New Mexico is home to some of the oldest wineries in the country and the Native Indians have a number of local beers. There are also other beverages. For example, you can request for soft drinks and fresh juices using our New Mexico shot glass souvenirs.

Sports

Far from being a desert state that many take it to be, New Mexico is booming with life and various sporting activities. The most popular sports in the state include baseball, ice hockey, basketball and football.

Interesting Facts

The state has the highest percentage of Hispanics in the country. Therefore, expect that Latino flavor.
New Mexico is one of the most sparsely populated states in the country. Therefore, do not expect massive cities like New York.
The state is home to the Santa Fe National Forest and the Aztec Ruins National Monument.
The incredibly beautiful White Sands National Monument is also located in the state. To clarify, you should visit.
The map of New Mexico is almost a perfect rectangle. Theefore, it looks truly stunning on the map.
The name of the state was derived from the neighboring nation of Mexico. That is to say, it is connected to this country.

Moreover, New Mexico, with its several iconic symbols and landmarks, has always been and remains one of the most popular places to purchase souvenirs.
