The Country

Vatican City is the smallest state in the world, but perhaps one of the most fascinating.

Even as a child, I remember people talking about it as it was some mystical paradise. The only thing I knew about it was that the pope lived there and Michelangelo had drawn an amazing picture on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Now know it is some strange landlocked state in within the boundaries of another city Rome. Further research shows it was establish only 80 years ago in 1929 and sits on top of Vatican Hill. Know all need know is what it is like to live there. What do people do there?

The Vatican Museum

The Vatican Museums claim to be the best museums in the world are false claim.

The Pinacoteca, the Modern Religious Museum and the sculpture museums all hold some of the most famous art work in the work, from Caravaggio’s entombment to the sculpture of Emperor Augustus.

But what puts it beyond almost any other museum in the world is its presentation. Even to get to the museums you have to walk through the Sistine Chapel and then once you are there the interior of the buildings will just take you your breath away. What other museums can boast such majestic spiral staircase?

Vatican Gardens

It is said that Saint Helena came from Golgotha to spread soil and create what has become the Vatican Gardens. Whatever the story of how it was built, it certainly has a mythical quality.

Covering over half of Vatican territory, it’s collection of parks and gardens are full of medieval fortifications and fountains. The artificial grottoes scattered throughout pay respect to the Lady Madonna.

Vatican souvenirs

Moreover, Vatican, with its several iconic symbols and landmarks, has always been and remains one of the most popular places to purchase souvenirs. However, among the many options of Vatican -themed souvenirs, shot glasses are considered particularly and intriguing items for collecting or gifting.
