The Country

South Sudan has a very interesting story. Apart from being one of the newest nations on earth, it also stands out as a land full of people with tenacious hope and an unflinching level of determination. A landlocked nation in the northeast Central Africa, the country is bordered by Ethiopia to the east, Kenya to the southeast and Uganda to the south.

To the southwest lies the Democratic Republic of Congo and to the west is the Central African Republic and the Republic of Sudan to the north. One of the most interesting natural features in Africa is in this country and it is a vast swampy area called the Sudd. It is formed by the White Nile and the locals call it the Bahr al Jabal.

The People

South Sudan has a population of 8 to 10 million, and the economy is based mainly on agriculture. For decades, the people have been ravaged by wars and conflicts. This led to destruction, neglect and lack of infrastructural development.

There are various ethnic groups in the country and these include the Dinka, Nuer, Bari, Azande and the Shilluk. A vast majority of the South Sudanese population follow Christianity and traditional African religions.

Eating

Like in other parts of Africa, food is never an issue in South Sudan. Many of the dishes are very similar to the ones in Sudan. The dishes that you will enjoy most are the ones that are a blend of Arabian and Africa flavors.

For those who are also into hunted animals, there is enough wild meat for you to savor. Fish is also a delicacy in many parts of the nation. It all depends on how you want it. In the capital city of Juba, there are eateries and restaurants where one can enjoy some really international dishes.
