The Country
It is in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (also known as the DPRK). It is a nation that has not ceased to baffle the world. A country almost totally cut off from the rest of the globe, North Korea is so secluded and isolated that scholars have referred to it as the ‘Hermit Kingdom’.

Unlike many nations of the world, more than 60% of the citizens do not follow any faith and are often classified as atheists. Others adhere to Buddhism, Shamanism, Cheondoism and Christianity. The absolute ruler of the country is the legendary Kim Jong-Il.
Eating
Food in North Korea is somewhat similar to what obtains from other parts of the Korean Peninsula. Most of the meals are made from noodles, rice and tofu. Rice can be made into flour to make a rice cakes known as tteok. For protein, North Koreans consume beef, pork, chicken and seafood (especially shellfish, oysters and clams).
Drinking
As it is with the other nations in East Asia, tea is widely taken in North Korea and is called cha. Wines made from rice are also popular. Also, the most popular alcoholic drink is soju, and is made from cereals, especially rice. The drink is best enjoyed with North Korea shot glass souvenirs.
