The Country
Guam is a lively, tropical island with gorgeous, sandy beaches and cultural activities galore. It is also a shopping mecca, which many tourists are surprised to find out when they arrive. Guamanian food itself is similar to Spanish food and includes such regional favorites as Kelaguen, which is a dish made of chopped chicken, lemon juice, grated coconut and hot peppers. Another favorite regional dish is Apigigi. This is a decadent dessert made from coconut milk and tapioca which is then wrapped and grilled in a banana leaf. Can you say to die?
Drinking
If you’ve never been there, you may not suspect that Guam has such a happening night scene. Many clubs and discos offer tourists a place to go for dancing and entertainment, and at these clubs a visitor can find any cocktail or libation their heart desires. The locals, however, pretty much are beer drinkers, and Guam has its very own brewery on the island which puts out a fine selection of microbrewed ales and lagers.
Celebrations & Holidays
Every year on July 21st, Guam celebrates Liberation Day, commemorating the day American forces liberated the island from the Japanese. On this day the whole island celebrates with fireworks, festivities, a parade, and the Liberation Carnival at Paseo Park, providing islanders with rides, foods and games.
