The Islands

The Falkland Islands consist of East Falkland, West Falkland, and 776 lesser islands. They are a self-governing overseas territory of Britain. Scattered sounds, fjords, and natural harbors add to the natural beauty of the islands. Falkland Sound separates the main islands.

The United Kingdom and Argentina have an ongoing dispute over which country is responsible for the Falkland Islands. They were named for Anthony Cary, 5th Viscount Falkland in 1690. The landscape of the islands has lush bushes, grasses, ferns, and pastures, but not really any trees.

The Culture and Environment

The islands have a subarctic and temperate maritime climate in addition to having impressive mountain ranges some of which are up to 2,300 feet. There is also a large population of birds. As for the economic activities, there is fishing, tourism and sheep farming.

Sheep farming is particularly important as the Falkland Islands is known for exporting some of the finest wool on earth. There is also some degree of oil exploration but that comes with its own controversy.

Many of the dishes on the islands have a British orientation. From grilled mutton to roast beef, fish and chips alongside stimulating beverages, you will surely have a nice time on these islands.
