The State

Just like Connecticut, Delaware is one of the original 13 states and as a matter of fact, was the first to approve the ratification of the Constitution. With an area of just a little over 5,000 square kilometers, Delaware is larger than just one state in the country. Consequently, the state is one of the most densely populated in the country. The state is known for being a major hub of industrial activities (which are concentrated in the north). Dover is the capital city but the largest city is Wilmington. Unlike the trend I noticed in some other states in the country, the name of the state was not derived from Native Indian words but was named in honor of the third Baron De La Warr, the first governor of Virginia in the colonial period. Honestly, I thought the name was Indian in origin!

The People

Being a state located close to the Atlantic Ocean, it is quite understandable that many of the people in the state have European roots –Dutch, Ukrainians, Russians, Irish, English and Scandinavians. For example, apart from the Europeans, there are Hispanics and African Americans who descended from slaves. Asians and Native Indians also form minorities and in terms of the population, Delaware is one of the smallest states in the country.

Eating in Delaware

Located on the Atlantic Coast, Delaware is a state where you will enjoy all the finest seafood meals that you can ever imagine. While on vacation in state, I did enjoy the best of seafood from roasted cod to baked lobsters. E

ating in Delaware is best described as sheer pleasure and excitement. However, there are also various dishes made from fresh fruits and vegetables and if you are lucky enough to stay with the Native Indians (who are in the minority), you will be able to taste some really traditional bread made from corn.

Drinking in Delaware

While staying in Delaware, you can drink but you need to know that there are some restrictions. For example, you can only buy alcoholic drinks in stores that have been licensed by the government. It is also interesting to know that alcohol is sold between certain hours of the day.

Places To Visit

This is a state in which tourism contributes greatly to the economy. I visited some of the most enchanting places in the state. For example, these include the majestic Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Memorial Bridge, Delaware Park Racetrack and the best of all, the Delaware River itself.

Sports in Delaware

Visiting Delaware means going to one of the most sports-charged atmospheres in the United States. Popular sports in the state include baseball, football and basketball. However, Delaware is also one state where you can enjoy derby and racing.
