One of the most developed places on earth, Hong Kong is one of the two Special Administrative Regions of the People’s Republic of China. Located on the south coast of China, it is surrounded by the South China Sea and Pearl River Delta. Hong Kong is famous for many things and some of these include its iconic skyline and an impressive deep natural harbor. For a population of over seven million people crammed in just over a thousand kilometers square, Hong Kong is one of the densest places in the world. Hong Kong also has one of the most important business centers in the world. A place with an enchanting history, Hong Kong was colonized by Britain after First Opium War. At first, it was ceded to the UK for all time, then Kowloon Peninsula. During the Pacific War, it was occupied by Japan and after that, the British resumed control until 1997.
A vast proportion of Hong Kongers are ethnic Chinese making up almost 95% of the population. Of these Chinese, most of them have their roots in the Guangdong area of China. However, it is also noteworthy to point out that many of those in Hong Kong today are offspring of the immigrants from mainland China, with some having migrated from other parts of the globe. There are minority ethnic groups from Indonesia and the Philippines and they work mainly as foreign domestic helpers. Almost 280,000 domestic foreign workers are present in Hong Kong, making up about 4% of the overall population.

The best thing about Hong Kong is the sheer diversity and amazing sophistication that comes with all the meals that are served. There are various eateries and restaurants where one can enjoy exotic Chinese meals and fine Japanese dishes. From stir-fried dishes to barbecued meat and tanduri, Hong Kong is the finest place!
The alcohol laws in Hong Kong are stricter than what obtains in China but it is also interesting to know that the sale of alcoholic drinks is even more liberal than in countries like Canada. All over the place, there are bars, inns and restaurants where one can easily get beers, wines, spirits and yes, fresh fruit juices.

For a place that is as highly-developed as Hong Kong, it does not come as any surprise at all that there are various sporting events all over the territory. Some of the sports that are widely-enjoyed in Hong Kong include football, rugby, horse racing, swimming, cycling, table tennis, running and basketball. Others include dragon boat racing and winter games. Hong Kong is also known for hosting some of the biggest games in the region, and a very good example of this is the V East Asian Games which successfully held in Hong Kong in 2009.
