The State

Colorado is located in the western region of the country and is one of the ‘Mountain States’. This appellation originates from the fact that around 50% of the state is covered by the Rocky Mountains (or the Rockies) which is one of the most important mountain ranges in North America. Colorado is neatly shaped as it is a clearly-cut rectangle and it shares borders with the following states: Nebraska and Wyoming to the north, Utah to the west, Kansas and Nebraska to the east and New Mexico and Oklahoma to the south. The name of the state was given to it by early Spanish settlers and it means ‘the red-colored’ to describe the Colorado River, which is a major hydrographic feature in the state. Colorado is a place of awesome natural beauty and many tourists enjoy hikes and rides in the mountainous regions and the captivating deserts. The capital city is Denver and is part of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country. If you want to start a tour of the United States, one place that you can start from is the Centennial State.

The People

If there is anything you will be thoroughly pleased with in this state apart from the breath-taking natural wonders, it is the cuisine. Coloradans are some of the best cooks I have ever met and they know how to daze you with fantastic dishes and mouthwatering meals. If you are a bit skeptical about this, then it means you have to taste the legendary bison stew and you will surely ask for more. Bison has a lot of flavor and is considerably leaner than the beef that many of us are used to. In the capital city of Denver, you will enjoy steak like never before. In my view, Colorado is a fantastic choice for tourists in love with meaty meals. Various other dishes (especially made with fresh vegetables) are also available.

Drinking

This question will not even come up while you are in the state and this is simply because of the fact that Colorado has some of the best wines in the United States. Beers and other alcoholic beverages are also available.

Sports

Like many of the other states in the country, Colorado is also a major center for sports. The most popular sports in the state include football, rugby, lacrosse, ice hockey, baseball and basketball.
